Karnataka Development Report

Purpose

It has come to a realization that economic development is an outcome of both public and private initiatives. There are certain areas, in which the civil society has also played some important role. Therefore preparation of a comprehensive report on the Status of Development in Karnataka on the eve of 50 years of planning in India is a welcome measure. The report should have a mission and a vision. Preparation of such a Development Report at the state level with the involvement of all stakeholders such as the government, research institutions, and Planning Commission is timely. This would improve the quality of the analysis and content. The ultimate objective is that Karnataka State must get the benefit of such a vision document. Apart from issues such as sustainable growth, poverty alleviation, employment, regional imbalance in development, and resource enrichment, the Karnataka State Development Report will include issues on governance, delivery of services, social mobilization, social justice and equity. The State Development Report can also serve as a mid term appraisal of the State’s Tenth Plan and provide inputs for future directions.
