Concerns of Human Resources Development have been one of the priority areas of research in this Institute right from its inception. Health and education are the two major concerns of human resource development. The centre recognizes the instrumental role played by human resources, in particular, education and health in fostering economic growth and social development and also in promoting global competitiveness. The centre which was earlier known as the Education Unit has now an enlarged mandate to support the state and national developmental efforts. Hence the major focus of the centre is to engage in studies relating to policy analysis as well as contemporary macro and micro level problems and issues relating to all aspects of human resource development such as health, education, skill formation, quality of workforce, gender concerns and nutritional status, early childhood care and education, alternate paradigms in planning and management of education and health care delivery services, lifelong learning with particular focus on marginalized and youth population; education and its impact on migration in promoting income mobility and quality of life; human capital and human development; child rights and issues. The CHRD has also been providing resource support to MHRD/GoI for monitoring its flagship programme of Sarva Shkisha Abhiyan in Karnataka; The state government has recognized CHRD as one of the key Resource Centres for capacity building activities for education functionaries. National agencies such as the National Planning Commission, NCERT, NUEPA and UGC have been collaborating with CHRD on a wide range of activities. Some of the recently completed research studies by the centre include: (i)Migration from North Eastern Region: A Study of Educated Youth from NER in Bangalore & Delhi; (ii) A Study of Management Development Programme (MDP) for Block and Cluster Level Educational Functionaries; (iii)A Study of Delivery and Outcomes of Akshaya Patra Foundation School Meal Programme in Primary Schools.
